Two Gold Coast locals recently found themselves in an epic showdown, as a fisherman reels in a gigantic 240-kilogram bull shark right in the heart of Lake Orr.
This adventure began when the enormous predator decided to play tug-of-war with their tinny for an astonishing two hours before they called for reinforcements. Let’s dive in and discover some fascinating facts about the bull shark along the way!

The Encounter
It was a normal day when Jake and his fishing friend went fishing on Lake Orr, QLD, Australia. Little did they know that their day would take an exciting turn when Jake exclaimed, “That’s a really big fish!” It turned out to be a rather big surprise – a 2.8-meter bull shark.
This is a species typically associated with the open ocean, rather than a landlocked lake. As the mighty shark tugged their tinny, the two men found themselves in a battle for the ages.
The Battle
The battle of wits between man and shark lasted an surprising two hours. Jake and his mate were trying to figure out how to bring in their colossal catch. Their struggle was so intense that it felt like they were trying to reel in a shark the size of their entire boat.
Fortunately, six fellow fishermen happened to be nearby and lent a helping hand to bring the massive bull shark to dry land. As Jake explained, “They gave us a hand to pull her up and, you know, get the hook out and do all that.” It was a fortunate bit of luck!
Lake Orr’s Hidden Secret
To many, the idea of encountering a gigantic bull shark in a lake may seem unfathomable. However, Jake had his suspicions, stating, “I did because I’ve hooked a couple of them and I couldn’t stop them. And yeah, I wasn’t letting this one get away.”
He captured the astonishing moment on video! Then shared it on social media as a cautionary tale for his neighbors, who often take a dip in the lake. It was undeniable proof of what has always lurked beneath the serene surface of Lake Orr.
