According to dogs, anything can be a toy. Although this is a great mindset, it isn’t so great when they get their paws on a snake. Scroll down to watch the video and to see how it turned out for this dog with a snake wrapped around its mouth!

Dog Vs. Snake: Who Was In More Danger?

Usually, the dog would be in much more danger because of the risk of a venomous bite. But the snake in the video wasn’t venomous and had probably grown weak from the dog bite. So, even though the dog really looks like it was in trouble, the snake was probably actually in a worse situation.

What To Do If Your Dog Catches a Snake

If your dog catches a snake, remain calm and avoid stressing both the dog and the snake out even more. Although you will want to get the snake off your furry friend as quickly as possible, do not attempt to pull the snake away! If you do it might cause the snake to bite either you or your dog.

The best thing to do is what the woman in the video did – call a professional snake wrangler.

Keep a safe distance and monitor your dog’s behavior and health closely until help arrives, ready to rush to a veterinarian if necessary.

Can You Tell If a Snake Is Venomous by Its Appearance?

Unfortunately, it’s really hard to know if a snake is venomous simply by judging a snake by its looks. Not only that, many non-venomous snakes have the same coloration and patterns as venomous ones (of course they’d rather you think that they’re venomous to keep threats away.)

However, some general indicators can help, such as the shape of the head, the presence of a pit between the eye and nostril in pit vipers are some things to look out for.

If you know there are specific venomous snakes in your area, the best thing you can do is study them!

A local snake wrangler has been urgently called to the scene by a woman who’s desperately fearing for her dog’s life – I definitely would be too if I caught my dog with a snake wrapped around its mouth.

Within minutes of entering the scene, the wrangler detaches the snake from the dog. All is well: the dog is safe, and the snake just needs some minor medical attendance for its dog bite.

Wrapping Up

If you’re a dog owner like me, you know that dogs have a tendency to misjudge the wrong (sometimes even outright dangerous) things for toys. We can all let out a sigh of relief to know that the dog walked away unharmed – but perhaps it’s a good reminder for all dog owners to be familiar with what kind of venomous snakes exist in your area in case something like this happens.
